Their leadership, insight and dedication help ensure our work remains transparent, strategic and deeply connected to the communities we serve.

  • Melissa Lawson has over 20+ years' experience working in the not-for-profit sector and has developed an in-depth understanding of social enterprises, community food programs and localised food systems.

    With extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, Melissa has developed and implemented numerous accredited training and social engagement programs that provide pathway opportunities for those experiencing social disadvantage and marginalisation. Melissa is passionate about connecting people to their local community food system and the powerful connections that food can bring people through storytelling, learning, relationship building and celebrations.

  • Miranda Campbell is a social impact leader with a background in food, hospitality and community building. She has deep expertise in social enterprise, social procurement and business development and is the current CEO of For Change Co., a social enterprise dedicated to tackling youth homelessness.

  • Jimmy is a chartered accountant with over 25 years experience in public practice and private industry. His past volunteer work includes being treasurer of the Mental Health Foundation Australia and as accountant for Goodcompany and ShareGift. Jimmy is looking forward to contributing his skills to the financial management and growth of Open Table.

  • Edwyn Shiell has nearly 20 years local and international experience across sustainable development, human rights, food security and nutrition, STEM and climate change. He has worked for UN agencies, charities and government agencies leading strategic communications, media relations, advocacy, major events and partnerships. A passionate foodie and father, he has spent much of his career builing inclusive and diverse movements to tackle the interlinked food and climate crises.

  • Cal is a pastry chef and trainer in the Patisserie and Bakery Department at William Angliss’ Melbourne city campus. His move to the world of sweets followed a 20+ year career in law, including 10 years as principal of his law firm. As a lawyer, he specialised in commercial litigation and alternative forms of dispute resolution. As a chef, he is interested in yeasted laminated dough products, particularly croissants (yum yum).

  • Jessica Young is a marketing and communications leader with over a decade of experience driving positive social change across government, non-profit, and private sectors. Her work has focused on addressing complex social challenges, including food insecurity, climate resilience, intergenerational disadvantage, inclusion and accessibility, and equitable access to education. Jessica is passionate about the power of storytelling to foster more informed, inclusive, and resilient communities.

  • Peta Christensen brings a deep commitment to food justice, sustainability, and community connection to her role as CEO of Open Table. With a background in urban agriculture, community development, and social enterprise, she has spent over two decades working to create more equitable and resilient food systems.

    Peta leads Open Table with a strong focus on collaboration, inclusion, and practical impact — valuing food not just as nourishment, but as a way to build skills, celebrate culture, and strengthen community in Melbourne’s inner north.
